How to Clean Rugs Properly

 



Are you cleaning your rugs properly? Maybe you are not even thinking of it. People often forget to notice that their rugs are needed to be cleaned properly. Sometimes vacuum cleaning is not enough whether you have small rugs or mansion size rugs, you need to do more to make them clean and keep them in a good condition. If you are not enough conscious about this issue, it is time to give some love to your rugs. Today, I am going to share tips so that you can understand how to clean your rugs properly.

1. Collect supplies and tools: You will need some necessary supplies and tools to clean your rugs. Maybe you have already had these things in your house. You will need hand gloves, bucket, garden hose, dry and wet vacuum cleaner, rug shampoo or dish soap, sponge or brush, water, etc.  If you do have not these in your home, you should collect them before start cleaning your rugs.

2. Remove dirt: You may start with vacuuming both sides of the rug to remove all the dirt and debris. If it needs, you can use a brush to remove the stubborn dirt from the rugs.

3. Use cleaner: You can use the rug shampoo as a cleaner to get a better result from it. You can also use dish soap with warm water to clean the rugs. You should be careful about the hot water as it can shrink the rugs or damage them completely. 

4. Be careful when scrubbing: You should go for a prior color test before trying to scrub on the rugs. Otherwise, the color of rugs may get faded when you scrub on the rugs with a brush.

5. Wash your rugs: If your rugs are washable, you should wash the rugs to clean them perfectly. Apply the cleaning solution on rugs and keep it stay for at least five minutes then start rinsing the rugs.


 

You can use a garden hose to rinse the soap out from the rugs. You need to make sure that all the cleaning solution is gone before stopping washing the rugs with water.   Thus you will be able to remove the dirt and get perfectly cleaned rugs. 

6. Remove water from rugs: When you are sure that there is no more cleaning solution on the rugs, you need to start removing excessive water. If you do not do that your rugs will take forever to get dry. It may also cause damage to the material of the rugs. You can use a dry vacuum to remove the water as much as you can.

7. Dry the rugs completely: It is very important that you dry the rugs completely before returning them to your home. Lay the rugs on the floor flat to keep them dry and flip the side so that both sides of the rugs get dry well. You can use fans to speed up the process faster.

Cleaning rugs is mandatory if you want to keep your rugs clean and fresh for a long time.
